The Highlands Breakdown

MUSIC  &  LYRICS
X. Salinazarmendaritz

Bleak cold and moisture are getting to the bones. Bluebonnets and tartans in training for the shock. Raining on their faces, iron, sweat and blood. Red coats many cannons. The kilts swords and hoes.

They were truly hard times.
People lived tied to the past.
Centuries-old Highlands
in a country never one conquered
over long time,
where Hadrian built the Wall.
Deeply rooted customs
and bagpipes… non-stop…
Non-stop! Non-stop!

But there came a time
when the history would change.
The ancient clan system
was about to see the end.
Highlands had decided
to support a little prince.
Fighting for their freedom
but in fact to die for him.
Die for him! Die for him!

From the glens and the mountains,
crossing braes fell to wilderness.
Warriors shepherds, after war cries.
They arrived too tired near Inverness
with an empty belly
didn´t know that came the end.
Came the end! Came the end!

Bonnie Prince Charlie
fighting to regain his throne.
But the others to save
clachans and their homes.
In Culloden fields
highlanders and their prince
against the Royal Army
all crashed in the dirt.
In the dirt! In the dirt!

From the glens and the mountains,
crossing braes fell to wilderness.
Warriors shepherds, after war cries.
They arrived too tired near Inverness
with an empty belly
didn´t know that came the end.
Came the end! Came the end!

Bleak cold and moisture
are getting to the bones.
Bluebonnets and tartans
in training for the shock.
Raining on their faces,
iron, sweat and blood.
Red coats many cannons.
The kilts swords and hoes.
Swords and hoes! Swords and hoes!
